Recently a very very nice 1872 was for sale near me. It was one of the nicest I ever saw. It sold in less than 24hrs for full price $2000. No 3pnt, rear pto or deck just tractor. This got me thinking what would an equally equipped and conditioned 1572 or 1772 be worth. I have been told a diesel is worth$1000 more than a gas version. Now add a 3pnt and /or a rear pto and deck which all together should be worth at least another $1000 and your up to $4000. What's your oppinion?

I deal mostly in John Deere's so I may not be the right one to reply. But here in GA a diesel will always be at least $1000 more than a gas tractor unless it is in bad need of repair. Then the cost of diesel repairs rears it's ugly head and the gas comes out on top. As for the price 1872 that sounds a little high to me without even a deck. Finding a good deck to go with it is harder than finding the tractor. A 3 pt and rear PTO would add at least another $1000 to the price IMHO. I am about to put a JD 332 diesel with 50 inch deck, power steering, new everything that can be put on it, rear hydraulics, draw/hitch bar, front weight bar and grill guard and a 54 inch four way snow blade for $4500. It has 575 hours on the clock and not one inch of rust. It seems high until you try to find any kind of replacement for anywhere near that price. All of these little diesel tractors are a vanishing breed and are not affordable new any longer. That's probably what the owner is thinking.

You are talking like a wife. The "need" word should never be said when discussing tractors.

That price is way off. I'm telling you, that mag 18 in the 1872 is harder to find parts for than any of the diesels. I've been into both engines. If you think diesel parts are expensive, then your buying them in the wrong place. There is no way in the world an 1872 is worth $2k. No matter how many options it has. The real problem is as I've stated before. The idiots that pay that kind of money. Then everyone else thinks they can charge that much. The cyclops diesels like Mac's, and the 15 and 1772 are worth 2K. But ONLY if they are in great condition. The only gas tractor that might be worth that kind of money is the 2182. And that's really more because there aren't many. Burns me that the price of these is getting jacked to this point because people think they are "rare".

J-Mech whats even worse is the fact that you can cut a cub up part it out and it will bring even more than the absurd asking prices even the nice "units". A decent project used to be priced around $300 now it's $800. As far as the cost of a diesel some like them some don't over the life of both engines and even same horse power if that were possible the diesel will cost more. I'm not downing the diesel engine, however in a small GT like cub it's a non issue to me using a gas engine, now on something like 3600 I have very little use for a gas engine. I guess it's all in what you want, and what you plan to do with it.
I'm thinking price difference between similar models/options diesel would a realistic $500 more. Another thing is if you find a nice gas GT and you toast the engine you can replace the entire engine pretty cheap plenty used engines around a diesel with a toasted engine say a cracked block can be a boat anchor with special set up etc

Wouldn't the value of things be determined by what price the market will bare. I have seen many supers go for $2000 so why should some one sell there tractor for less if some one is willing to pay more. And why is some one an idiot if they want something and pay what the market is baring.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
