100 question
Does anyone know if there is a serial number cutoff for the 100's with slower gears? Want to make sure I got the faster gears for plowing, the rear end I have now is the slow one, gotta couple more non running 100's I can switch out, but don't know how to tell without being in the feild running in front of a guy with the faster gear. Thanks

I havnt got my 100 running yet and have never driven a gear drive cub. But mine has a creeper. Would 3rd gear with creeper be faster then second? And is second gear really that slow for plowing?

The creaper is not designed or built to handle heavy loads such as pulling a moldboard plow.
My 100 has the slower 16 tooth second gear. I doubt you will gain enough speed make a difference. You may lug the motor too much to get it to plow right with the faster second gear.

The fast second is too fast for plow days in my opinion. I had a rear with the fast 2nd in my 582, and I put a different rear in with the slower 2nd so that I wouldn't have to run at half throttle at plow days.

The one and only plowdays I've been to I was following a 108( idk what tooth gear that had) but it was hauling the mail pretty good. Havnt got too getting the serial number off my 100 too see what gear it has but it should be ok for plowing shouldn't it? Its gunna be my number 2 plow tractor anyways. 169 will be number 1

Thanks for the info. We do alot of plowing on our own and I'm always getting yelled at cause my second is slower than everyone behind me. It's all in fun.

Below 96766 has the 16 tooth second gear.
Above 96766has the 17 tooth second gear. Any serial number above 96766 is faster. A Cub Cadet 108 should have a 17 tooth gear from the factory. There are several factors when it comes to plowing. Soil conditions, what condition the plow is in, and how the tractor and plow are set, are some of major factors. Hauling the mail or fast plowing most times isn't good plowing. It would be interresting to know if the 108 that ihnick talk about has a stock 10 horse power motor in it. In the past few years several have added weight to their plow. Most times slowing down a little will eliminate the need for extra weight. This is good plowing as far as I'm concerned.    The furrow wall is clean and the bottom of the furrow is flat and smooth...unlike the ones who plow faster speeds.
