Okay, it seems a few of us are having charging system issues right now. Can someone please help me figure out this.

My charging system wasn't showing that it was charging. I changed the v/r to another that I had (older and had to switch the batt and gen term. to match so that part is correct). Once I hooked the battery back up it was trying to start with the key in the off position.

I'm stumped and although I don't know a lot about this I did check and make sure that it is correctly wired to the v/r. At this point the amp meter is moving back and forth.

any help is appreciated.

thanks, Joe

Sounds like the normally open tips inside your voltage regulator may be stuck closed/welded and applying battery volts to s/g instead of from the kys start position which sometimes happens. More than likely if it just started happening after you put the other v/r on

I'm pretty sure a wrong V/R can do the same thing.

Default 127 charging system

Hey! That's the same thing that happened to my 128. The tractor was purchased with the motor not turning over (not even with a pry bar against the lugs on the pto clutch!) After getting the engine loose, the starter would turn the engine over without using the key.

After trying all the electrical components EXCEPT the v/r, I rapped on the v/r with a screwdriver handle a few times and the problem quit.

The system charges the battery fine now without any needle bounce of the type that you described.

That may/may not work for you but give it a try. Just don't use a BFH and destroy a possibly good unit. (Is that money I hear breaking?)

FFGino. Happy Cubbing!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
