Default Blew up my 1450 engine

Well, I recently bought a 1450 with a snow blower. The blower is in need of new auger bearings and sprocket so I put a plow on it and it worked really well. That is until I found out the hard way it was consuming oil faster than I thought. My buddy had a 14 horse Kohler I was gonna try but the crank was different. I'm thinking if I'm gonna do anything it's gonna have to be a budget rebuild. Can anyone tell me where I can get inexpensive parts. Definitely gonna need a piston and rod, a cam, and gasket set. The other issue is that the only tag I saw with a serial number on the engine is no longer readable. So will any K321 kit work?

Thanks

You can get engine kits here.... E-Bay

Yes, the kits are all the same.

I don't know what kind of engine rebuilding experience you have, but here is some tips worth a few bucks:
1.) If you do a rebuild, do it right. These motors won't last if you don't. May only run a few hours. (Many stories on this site to confirm that.) That doesn't mean you have to spend big $$. I'm in the middle of a rebuild now, with the E-Bay kit, and machine work I have about $350 in it, and I replaced everything. Ground the crank, new bearings, bored, valves, valve guides, gaskets, tune up.....
2.) Take it to a machine shop and have it tanked, bored, valves done, and the crank ground. (Average cost $160)
3.) Download the service manual and do it "by the book". It is available in our tech section. Since your new, HERE is the link.
4.) If you have any questions, post them in the "Kohler engine" section on this site. There are plenty of experienced "rebuilders" here that will help.

Again, welcome to OCC, and good luck with your engine!!

First, welcome to OCC

First time I rebuilt the K301 in my 125 I got a cheap kit off ebay. The rings never seated. Some folks have had good luck with those kits, I didn't.

I honed the cylinder and found Kohler parts on ebay for a good price. The higher quality parts worked much better. It took a couple months to get great deals but I paid $40 for a Kohler piston kit ( piston, rings and wrist pin ) and $38 for a Kohler connecting rod.

Welcome to OCC. I've had great success with the ebay kits Jonathan mentioned. Follow the manual.

This is a "typical" Model and Spec number for a 1450: K321AQS-60291

Thanks for the welcome and all the info everyone. I haven't messed around too much with small engines but have had plenty of experience repairing automotive engines. I definitely wanna do it right. Fortunately when I bought it from my uncle the manuals came with it. I'll try to update as the project goes on.

This is THE PLACE for all things Cub Cadet, from the IH made Original Model through the current MTD machines.

Put on the coffee, pull up a chair and stay awhile. There is a depth of knowledge and experience here you cannot find anywhere else.

Again, welcome to the Club.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
