Default Cub Cadet 1250 clean up.

This is my first Antique lawn tractor. A buddy of mine gave it to me about 3 weeks ago. I had to get a carb, new points, coil and a gas tank. Got it running but it was knocking. I took the engine apart and found it had a .030 over piston but the bore looked as if was .060 over that's how loose the piston was in the cylinder. I was lucky enough to get another block that was standard and a new piston and rod. I've never had a Kohler engine before and it runs like a dream now. Here are some pics of the start of my clean up.

I have been using Ospho after wire brushing and sanding. I've been using Ospho for several years now with great results.

Thanks, I'm not going to make this any kind of show tractor. I'm going to be using this tractor for mowing and pulling stuff around the yard. I just want to get rid of the rust and make it last another 35 years.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
