I recently picked up a 149 and having some issues.
I replaced new points, condenser, new battery, coil, starter gen plug . here Is the problem. I have to jump it to get it running. it seems like too much compression.it cranks really slow. I was thinking maybe ACR but not sure. Maybe I'm missing something? Any help would be great. |

Congrats on your new 149. Regarding your problem, it's possible you could have weak grounding on battery cable wire to tractor, dirty battery connections or loose starter generator belt. ACR is possible as you suggested but I'd keep it simple at first before digging in deeper.

Jump directly to the starter and see if it turns over normally. If yes they you have a wiring ground problem.

Check the timing, sounds like it may advanced too far.

I see you're in PA...and it's winter...do you have the wrong oil in it? Also, the rear end could be cold and that causes hard starting in a hydrostatic cub.

I have to run my torpedo heater for 15 minutes in my shed to get my 125 to start. Warm weather it pops right off.

its not like cold start. It was almost 50 today. its more like not enough juice to turn over engine

Hello and Welcome!!!
Please Please Please check all the grounds. I had the exact same problem with my 1650, got very mad, and sold it. Buyer told me it had a bad ground and he repaired it. It started right up just like it should from then on. I was always charging batteries and fighting with it to start. Take the battery cables off, wire brush with a drill, replace bolts if needed, inspect cables for breaks. Also check power cable to starter/gen for all the same things as with ground. I KICK myself EVERY DAY for selling my 1650 and overlooking something so simple that I should have looked for. Take care. Let us know how it goes. John |

I noticed that the ground was rigged to gether so first thing ill check . I also sold a 169 because of same issue..
