Default Steel seat on a 102...

Anybody here ever mount an old steel seat pan on a narrow frame 10X series? I know the sheet metal would present some challenges, just curious if anyone had pics? I have this 102 and want to do a "phantom" version w/ ags on the rear, 3 ribs on the front, Allis Chalmers orange paint, 1947 Farmall Cub decals, and a steel pan seat. Call me crazy, but there's no real collector value to the 102, and just want something unique to putt around shows or the occasional parade when not plowing snow or hauling yard debris, etc.

I tried to with my 122, bought the seat mount for a 71 figured out it will not fit because if you look at the 71 and 102 or 122 the 71 has the lower tunnel compared to the 122 or 102 so I could not fit thr factory 71 seat mount but if you were to find a 71 and drop in your 10 hp it would be a low tunnel 102 with a pan seat already on it, square fenders would not fit though.

I don't think you should have a stolen seat on any cub--buy your own and put it on! Oh, wait, you said steel seat....not steal a seat. Ok, in that case, you could buy a seat that a puller uses. I think they are aluminum. It isn't a pan seat, but often a flat seat that will allow you slide from side to side and shift your weight. Like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUB-CADET-JO...item19e46fc2a7

BTW: I like your white air cleaner assembly on your 102. Is that factory colors on it?

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. I'm sure the Cub spring mount wouldn't work for exactly the reasons jonjunk pointed out. I thought about the "puller" pans and covering in a hand tooled leather, as I do chopper seats as a side business, and have everything I'd need material wise http://www.po-boybikeworks.com/default.html. I think I'd rather figure out a way to low mount an old type pan using the existing sheet metal configuration. I also work for a company that makes outdoor furniture cushions, so maybe I could emulate the old John Deere B model seat style, only smaller, and cover in vinyl?

The guy I bought it from has thirty some restored Cub Cadets, everything from a pristine O to the newer stuff, so I'm sure it was the correct paint code, as he has painted many over the years! LOL An amazing collection IMHO...

You do great work with leather I am impressed!
If you find a decent way to mount the seat with the square fenders left on let me know. I was going to try one ither thing, the seat mounting part I mentioned is the same shape as the top of the tunnel in my 122 it could probabaly be made to fit under the tunnel it has but I would have the 3 point I will see if I can make it fit into my 123 but I would for sure have to cut or ditch that sheet metal piece on back to make room for the spring (the one with the IH logo) I believe I have seen a picture of one this style with the pan seat and spring but from a front view so they made something for the spring, or just made it work.

Thank you for the compliment! I'm already missing that piece, so I though about that as well. Would have to mount the spring under the sheet metal and come around and over the seat base that connects the fenders, if that makes sense?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
