I'm trying to do a complete rebuild on my 126 and here is what the clutch looks like. How bad does this look?

Looks like somebody's been in there before and kludged up the clutch...I can't see a teaser spring in there. If you're doing a complete rebuild, make a new driveshaft, get a new pilot bushing for the 3-pin driver, resurface the pressure plates on a lathe, and get a new friction disc, teaser spring, main spring, throwout bearing, and spirol pins. It'll cost you about $150, but it'll be good for another 30 years, and it is well worth the smooth operation that only a new clutch has.
Hey moderators...this is a question that gets posted like once every couple months, and I know I've answered it several times, as has Merk and others. Can we create some sort of a "clutch rebuilding tips" section in the library so we don't have to keep re-posting this stuff all the time? |

I agree Matt. I looked in the Tech section for a complete run down but didn't see one. I would also like to make the bench top spring compressing tool. I also saw in one of your replies that the parts diagram is wrong. Is there a good diagram of one? Thanks again.

Your service manual will show you the correct order of parts...the exploded view in the parts manual is wrong.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
