Default Steering problems and I need opinions

Hi all,

On my 147, the steering is really tight when I turn left but when I turn right, all is good. Any suggestions? I've been thinking about investing in a nice deck for my 147. How do they mow?

Thanks all

Try checking your front spindle grease zerks. One may need some grease. Then there is the steering box,it may need a rebuild.I find the hardest part is removing the steering wheel but most times a air chisel works well to get it off.Don't forget to use the pb blaster....let it soak a few days if the steering wheel was missing the cap.
As for the decks,as long as you get one that needs no tlc, sharp blades help,it mows real nice.

All I mow with is a 147 and a 48" deck. Love it. The 14 HP will mow through anything I can throw at it. The cut looks great and leaves a great finish I'm proud of.

Not sure what to tell you on the steering as these IHCC's are still new to me, but I mowed all summer at a camp with a 126 & a 48 inch deck. I had heard the later 44 and 50 inch decks cut better. I've got a 109 with a 44 in deck, but thought the 48 inch deck did a better job.

However, the 48 inch deck can clog, but the biggest annoyance to me was tall grass catching and building up in the discharge side anti-scalp runner.

Good luck,
Bill

Someone else had this same problem a couple of weeks ago, their thread might be of some help.

If your grass is dry and your mower deck is clean, no issues.

I was the one with the problem. I just fixed it over the weekend.
Had to remove the steering wheel and column and replace the bearings and races.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
