Default Not a Dream

Now I know upfront this sounds like an Internet fable however every word is true. I have an elderly uncle who is a very successful retired farmer. He was at my farm today for a rare visit and we walked down to my shop to look at my restored 53 ford jubilee and 56 John Deere 60(he is a voracious antique tractor restorer/collector) and he spots my 127 in a gazillion pieces on the shop floor. "oh, is that a cub cadet?" he casually inquired. "Yep,"says I lol "making a puller replica for Henry"( my great nephew).follow me as this is somewhat convoluted I realize. My uncle then proceeds to tell me that he has two very nice cub cadets in the back room of his shop/showroom and would I like to have them. Uhhhh yeaaaa!!!! "What are they and how much?" . He casually but silently saunters approvingly around my jubilee for what must have been a couple of minutes and then seemingly out of the blue spouts a" 124 and a 125. All you have to do is come get them."Needless to say I'm clearing my schedule Monday evening to retrieve them. Now, I realize this is certainly no monetary windfall but the sheer unexpectedness nearly makes me giggle.

Sometimes the stars align just right and something like this comes along. Congratulations. Your uncle is quite a guy, too. I'm not 'elderly' yet but I can understand his gesture. He saw you as a kindred spirit with a liking for good vintage machinery and the motivation to care for it. I think he wants be sure his tractors will be in the hands of someone who will appreciate them. You'll think of him whenever you see them. Pics would be appreciated.

I'll certainly post pics of the cubs but while I'm up there I'll take photos of some of his other collectibles. He has everything from antique dozers to his real pride and joy, a Ames Coach Works bodied Model T speedster that is restored to near concours.

Sounds like your Uncle is more interested in making sure those two Cubs get a good home than making a buck on them. He probably got "warm fuzzies" knowing his nephew will appreciate them too.

Congrats

Running waay late tonight but wanted to strike while the iron was hot ,so to speak. A couple of unexpected discoveries. The two cubs are actually a 123 and a 124. 123 is 100 % complete and actually had it running in about 15 minutes. 124 is missing the starter/generator and grill. Engine is free with good compression. Got this quick shot at a dimly lit car wash in a not so good part of town while I washed away the worst of 10 years plus of patina. Got them safely tucked away in my barn until I get the 127 completed, hopefully by Labor Day.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
