Default Trouble getting proper tension on new belt

Hi all,

I have a 1450 50" riding mower that I purchased recently. The old belt on it was pretty worn and had to be replaced this past week. I went to a local dealer and they gave me a new 3/8" x 80" belt (part number: IH-490489-R2). I went ahead and put it on, but the idler rachet is showing that the belt tensions need adjustment as it is too loose.

I've been tightening the tension bolt, but the idler rachet is still just sitting in the same place. I was expecting the idler rachet gauge to start moving and show it getting tighter. I've tightened enough to where the tension bolt is getting close to the end of the threads and it's angling downwards.

You can see in this picture how much I've tightened the bolt, but no change.

Any idea what I can do?

Is this new belt the same length as the old one? And secondly, I heard of some cub cadet mowers have a speed-up pulley on the decks... which is smaller and needs a shorter belt. I'm not so sure but it's worth checking.

My 1450's with 44's run the 59971-c1 belt 3/8 x 78. They all have the smaller "speed-up" pulleys on them. 44" or 50" shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah it looks like the belt that was ordered is slightly larger. I guess it should have been 78" and not 80". The dealer I went through apparently called Cub Cadet and got the correct belt from them. Not sure I can get my money back since it was a special order, even though they must have ordered the wrong size.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
