Default Engine for my CC 682

I have a lead on a CH18S Spec 62588. It looks like a Cub spec number. The starter doesn't work and its missing the muffler. Other than that it is complete including electric clutch. For $150, would this be a good transplant assuming it works are described? Does anyone know right off which cubs came with a CH18S?

CH18 came in a 2185 and probably others. You can turn it into a CH22 with a carb change. Mid West Super Cub has an adpater that you can use to hook up your drive shaft. Look for a muffler for a 2284 1863 1864 part # 751-3110

I don't know much on this topic, but I do know it's been done. Here is a video on YouTube I thought you might like to see... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsKfvjlkwz0

That engine was made for MTD.

After some research I found this spec number came from a Cub 2183 or 2184 built between 93 and 97 or a 2185/2186 from 94-02? I'm going to get it and give it a run. Thanks for the info! I hope I can get there before someone else does. Wish me luck!

We are both right! An MTD built Cub Cadet!

Thanks again!

Hey Sam, Which adapter are you talking about, the long one or short one for a mower. I used the long briggs one when i put the 25hp in my puller. It put the motor forward a little which i like and i kept the fins on the flywheel and the cover. Mike

I have the engine on my bench. I ordered the starter and muffler on eBay. Now on to electrical and drive shaft.

Which carb do I need for the 22hp upgrade? Any other suggestions for the drive shaft? I'm sure the part recommended above will work but it's $55. Id like to fab something if possible. Wiring suggestions?

You need one from a CH22, just happen to have one on the shelf, PM me with your phone # if you want it. Post a pic of the flywheel end of the engine, I may have a couple 2000 series drive shaft couplers that could work but you will still have to make a drive shaft no matter what you do because the CH is shorter than what you took out and you have to make sure the front is in the same place or you'll have PTO problems.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
