Default New from Australia.

Hi guys. Found your great forum while I was searching for a solution.

A friend has bought a new ride-on and said he would sell me the old one for $1000 AUD. (LT 1018-13AL11CG710 with a Briggs engine). When I arrived to pick it up, it would not start. We found there was no fuel getting to the carby. I checked the input line to the pulse type fuel pump & the fuel was getting to there O.K.

We figured it must be the diaphragm. So I decided to take it home and work on it today. The diaphragm looked fine but I couldn't feel any pulsing at the line while cranking the engine. I cleaned the top of the dipstick hole and blew smoke down into the crank case. Then I removed some covers & the throttle bracket-control & found this hole above the oil filter!

What would have caused this? Has the big end let go inside and punched the hole?

I was wondering if any of you guys have seen this before?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to OCC

Looks like something inside tried to get out. Hope you didn't pay for it because it looks like the engine is toast.

does oil or air blow from the hole? the bits in your hand look to be a little thin. looks like a thin area in the casting.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Sam Mac. I think your right about something tried to get out from inside. My mate is pretty good about it all & was as surprised as I was. He says he's happy to subtract the fix price from the agreed price if I think it's worth the effort.

I really need a ride-on, we've been mowing our acreage with push mowers for years & this one has a stubby holder!

4SPEED. The bits were in the hollow of my hand...so not a very good photo. Sorry about my crap camera. My plastic approximator says about 3.5mm.

It won't run (that's probably a good thing) as there is a piece missing from the recovered metal. There seems to be a lack of compression with the spark plug in. I can turn it with my hand. I can see the crank through the hole and the big end is still attached.

The frustrating part is, due to work commitments, I won't be able to pull it apart until the weekend. I'm curious about what's happened inside.

I like the look of the Cub Cadet. It looks like it could handle the slopes on our property. So it may be doo-able even as a re-engine.

I'll start a new thread in the briggs section when I pull it apart.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
