I ran my 1250 into a bush while mowing last weekend and the headlight grill bent and broke. Luckily I have a spare but it doesn't have holes for the headlights. I used the old one to draw out where the lights go, but I'm not sure how to cut the perforated metal as tin snips are too large to get a start and a wire cutter it's working.
Any ideas short of having a friend use a acetylene torch? |

Hole saw... Or buy a panel with the holes. They're usually not very expensive (probably less than the cost of a hole saw).

I used a dremel when I made the one for my old 1650

Cutoff wheel in a die grinder or Dremel. Hole saw would probably grab really bad.

Then run it backward at first after getting your pilot hole started to create a smooth channel, then go forward, slowly, to do the real cutting. Some oil would probably help too...

I wouldn't recommend that. You'd tear up the panel trying. I'd just look for a used one, they're pretty cheap. Or, the dremel idea is pretty good. Here's a third idea, take it to a welding shop with a track plasma cutter. It will look good and be perfectly round. Shouldn't cost too much..... at least at the welding shop I use it wouldn't.

Other techniques are probably up to the person... I'd screw it up hardcore with a dremel, but that's just me! ![]() |

Thanks for the advice. If anyone has a spare headlight panel for a QL, let me know. Otherwise I'll try the local welding shop.

One other possibility is if you know an electrician they may have a hole punch the right size. Greenlee makes punches that will do what you need but I don’t know if they make the correct size.

They call it out as IH-61419-C2. Personally, I would troll ePay and craigslist and wait for something to pop up. I bought an entire 1200 sans engine for $50 on CL. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
