If your going to put the kubota in the 982 you will have to put it in just like the other smokers are..... backwards. Just have a machine shop make you a shaft to fit the clutch off the Onan in the 982.

The machene shop idea was plan A untill I came across a stub shaft on a three cylinder gas Kubota in my collection that measures 1" dia. .It looks like the shaft used on the 1782 Kubota and is a direct bolt up to the fly wheel but the clutch that was on the shaft was destroyed in my barn fire. I can go to my local Kubota dealer (witch also happens to be a cub cadet dealer) and get a new Kubota clutch but I would like to use the factory 882D or a 1782 clutch if it fits a 1" shaft just to eliminate any unforseen bugs and to make it look factory built. Thank's for any help.

Holler if you can't find a 1" ID clutch, they are very common.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
