I have never used wheel weights, I have always used fluid.
I ran up on a couple sets of weights ![]() some paint remover, high pressure washing, and Valspar later they are ready to go on something!! Someone mentioned they should go on the inside of the wheels, but, I am pretty sure they would hit the brakes on an 1872!? ![]() So I guess I will have to bolt them to the outside of the wheels. Does anybody know what size and length bolts are needed to put them on the 26X12X12 wheels of an 1872? Since I have 2 sets, what tractor will take them on the inside? Is there a bolt length chart somewhere to show what bolts to use with what tractor wheel? ![]() |

I do not know if they will hit the brakes on your tractor or not. My tractor will take them though!..lol It has internal brakes. You can use some all thread and cut it to length, think thats what alot of folks do. Hope this helps some!..Brian

I used 1/2" x 7 bolts on my 23x10.50s. Logic would tell me that another 1 1/2" would do the trick. Any cub with internal brake should take them on the inside, or you can stack them on the outside - just get longer bolts.
EDIT: I used carriage bolts - makes it a whole lot easier to install. If you are doing inside and outside, I guess all-thread would be the way to go.

I use carriage head bolts. Pull the wheels off bolt the weights on then you can reach through the holes to put the lug nuts back on.

I purchased 1/2-13 carriage bolts 9" long at Home Depot. The rounded head goes against the wheel weight ( the square shank keeps it from turning ), then washer, lock washer and nut on the inside.
NOTE !!! The 9" length I mentioned works with my 10.50 fluid filled turfs and 8.50 turfs/ags rims using Gilson 65lb wheel weights. Two are required for each wheel weight. ![]() |

The holes in the Cub Cadet rims are square and will hold the head of the carriage bolt, also.

What Maddog said. Use 4 per wheel and put them in from the back side.

Two bolts are plenty and I put them on with the wheels on the tractor, those wheels are heavy enough to put on with out the weights. Pretty sure the one's I used on my 1872 were 13" long to.

I also recommend carriage bolts so the head stays locked into the rim while you loosen or tighten the nuts. Come in from the back side of the rim and hang both sets on that 1872. Double stacked weights look awesome.
With the external breaks on that super, you wont be able to have internal weights. I found it difficult to get the socket on the rim lug bolts while the weights are on the rim, so that is why I suggest putting the weight onto the rim while it is still mounted on the tractor. Double stacked!!!! : ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
