Default Another 129

Howdy Ya'all just picked this 129 up yesterday in pretty nice shape cosmetically , but it does run and slow idles like a champ, but as you give it throttle it starts to act up and wants to shut down and it does die if I do not throttle her down, PO said he was told to change the coil, condensor and points which he did but he admitted he was not mechanically inclined in the least bit. Its a 301k and it does not smoke. When you try and engage the pto for mowing that also makes it want to cut out. any advice on where to start trying to fix the problem ? the deck is in great shape and the front Ags are like new and the rear tires are not very old really solid 129 thanks for any advice or tips

Great looking tractor.
I vote for a mis-connected or defective condenser, or points not adjusted.

Fuel restriction is where I'd start looking. Tank screen, in line filter if any, then carb.

If choking it slightly helps the situation (at least momentarily), that's what the problem is.

and nice 129!

Sounds like it needs the carb cleaned. You can pull out the high speed jet and clean it with carb cleaner. It's the screw on the top of the carb. The adjustment is 2 turns out

Make sure the condensor is on the negitive side of the coil along with the points. If that dosnt solve the problem I'd go to the carb. And adjustin the points while your in there

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
