Default Got a paint estimate today

Called my body shop today to get an estimate for painting my 62 original. With me doing all the blasting, priming, and having everything ready to spray, he quoted me $1000 Am I cheap or does that seem a little crazy? He also suggested using base/clear instead of enamel. Thoughts anyone?

I have tried to get gas pumps and coke machines painted for years at three different body shops. I would do all the prep work and have them shoot the paint. Inflated quotes, Crazy turn times etc. etc.

Had a coke machine sit ready for paint at the body shop for a entire year. I got tired of ,"Your next in line." Went and picked it up and now it sits in my shop wanting.

The last guy quoted me $8,000 for two gas pumps and I supplied all the paint and had them sand blasted down. I asked him if he was kidding. He said no.

I believe that for the body shops here in central MN if it is not some sort of insurance job or a wide open check book restoration they will not give the small projects the time of day.

I have resorted to just doing my own work and just accept the fact that I get runs in the paint. Nothing perfect, but good enough for me.

I have painted all 3 of the cubs I have done

are they perfect ?

no

but I did the work

I used a 15-20 gallon craftsman air compressor, a cheapy Harbor freight $10 spray gun and Valspar paint from TSC (when they carried it)

patience and practice is what it takes

plus what your paint cost is what I have tied up in the top 2 tractors total
so I am saving money

that's why I have 6 of them right now

I would look for a MAACO shop near you.
Surely they wouldn't charge you that much.

I was dealing with this just yesterday. I am restoring a Datsun 240z that is stripped down to an empty shell. No taping off, just prep the body and paint. The painter was up front: Insurance collision work is a gravy train, so why bother with customer projects? He quoted $15,000 to paint it.

Yeah and chances are that you won't get exactly the correct paint either.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
