The pan on my seat is in very good shape and original but the covering is really bad. Can one buy the covering and put it on the pan? I believe the newer seats do not have a metal pan but I may be wrong.

Replacement seats are available for a 149. There are cheap plastic backed seats and there is a replacement seat with the correct 8" x 11" bolt pattern with a steal pan. Check with one of the sponsors above for a replacement seat. They can steer you in the right direction.
I haven't seen just a replacement foam and covering for a 149 or Quietline seat pan. I looked for one last summer with no results. I believe they were once available as a replacement part, but are now NLA from Cub Cadet. Your local Cub Cadet dealer, Case IH dealer or the sponsors above can help you. I bought the replacement metal pan, correct bolt pattern seat. It was well worth it. Remember to use an ample amount of anti-seize grease on the mounting bolts because the seats can trap moisture and cause the mounting bolts to badly rust in place. I hope you enjoy your Cub Cadet. |

I looked for quite awhile for a replacement pad, simply because I wanted to keep the original heavy pan and the original look. No luck. I need a seat for my 882 and 147. In the end, I bit the bullet(s) and coughed up the $$$ for a mid-back and high-back. Either one would work and look good on your 149.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
