Default Erratic mowing speed-hydro tractor

I was testing out my 1650 mowing some grass today. My yard is hilly, so going uphill and downhill, the speed varies A LOT. Also, it would not "back" up the hill. new fluid, new filter. Backs on level ground. cutting grass I have to give it more hydro lever to get up the hill, then it's way too fast coming back down. So I am constantly having to change speeds. Is this bad relief valves?

There is only one solution, and it is not relief valves.

Gear drive!!

I really like Cub Cadets, but, a hydro will fail on a grade.

I offered to buy a 430 JD brand new if it would go up and down my yard without constantly readjusting the hydro control. The dealer said no problem.

This really isn't that steep.

The 430 failed. The dealer said the 430 must need adjustment, that he would be back.

I am still waiting, that has been over 10 years!!

It is part of the Hydro deal get used to it or get a gear drive. I run with one hand on the hydro all the time.

I enjoy riding with one hand on the hydro, not a problem for me.

Could be your trunnion is worn.

I think the trunion is probably worn too but, driving with your hand on the hydro is normal to me too.

So why won't it back uphill? (go backwards uphill).

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
