Default input on 1000

I found a 1000 quiet line for $300. The Seller says it runs but is stuck in reverse. Body is in great shape for its age. What do you guys think?

i never had a complaint about my old 1000 other then i dont care for the iso mount setup. the rear could be a easy fix or simply swap out the rear , for a 10 horse that thing did everything i ever asked of it with the 44 inch deck. never once gave me a problem

IF, it is stuck in reverse, it has NOTHING to do with the rear end. I would venture to say, it is one of the Hydro Check Valves.

Could be a simple fix but you won't know till you pull the shifter and take a look. Worst case you can probably part it out to get your $300 back if you have to.

I bought my original with some rusty shift mechanisms. Wouldn't go into 2nd and 3rd til the PO forced it. Ended up having quite a bit of water in the tranny. Went through the transmission and it cleaned up pretty good. Spend some time sanding and greasing the shift rods. Works well now.

The only 1000 I've seen had a horrible paint job (completely yellow with tons of overspray), missing side panels, had a craftsman snow plow welded on the frame, frozen engine, but it had a complete tiller package and creeper gear. Guy wouldn't go down past $750. I'd like the tiller, but not really interested in the tractor.

Russell

Edit: clarity

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
