A couple months ago I was at my local lawnmower dealer ( my former employer) getting parts and the owner pulled me aside and said he wanted to show me something. We went out to the used mower barn and showed me this 1972 cub cadet 129. He askef me if I wanted to buy it cause if I didnt take it he was hauling it to local junk yard for scrap. The 12 horse kohler runs very strong and it is in decent shape. It needs some cosmetics and a front pto clutch to run deck but it has spring assist and I couldnt let him haul it away to junk yard. I paid $200 for it and drove it onto my trailer and now I have anothet restoration project.

Thanks, I hope to fix it up and use it to mow my yard with. I might take the spring assist off and use it on my 1200 for moldboard plowing. It just needs some love!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
