No PTO safety switch on my 149?
I have a June-1972 vintage 149 that I just picked up and I've begun tearing it down for maintenance. Found some interesting repairs by previous owners, but nothing I can't fix. One interesting find is that there does not appear to be any provision for a PTO safety switch under the dash like my 108 has. Is this normal?

Since both models are of the 1x8/9 Series, the wiring diagram is the same.
There is a PTO Safety Switch, which I believe is in the dash tower area and a Neutral Safety Switch which is located on the rocker shaft area.

The early ones do not have a pto safety switch. Not sure if there is a provision in the tower to add one.A 108 and the 149 I had did not have them.Both serial #s were 41xxxx.I may still have the tower and will post a picture if I do.
Under edit... Her are the two towers. The top one with no pto switch mount. The other with one.

Well, here ya go. Found another oddity with the IH Parts and Service Manuals.
* The paper Parts Manual TC157. Section C does NOT show either a Neutral Safety Switch nor a PTO Switch for the 108. It does show (Section G) both switches for the 149. * The electronic Parts Look-up on Cub Cadet.com shows both switches for the 108. *The Wiring Diagram in Service Manual GSS-1464 (Page 1-9), shows both switches. Go figure.

I have both switches on my 457403 model 108 but only the neutral starting switch on my 436731 model 149. I'll have to look in the dash tower to see if there is a place for it on the 149, but the 149 has hydraulic lift, so that stuff is under the tower, too. I'll also check the wiring harness to see if there is a jumpered termination where the switch would normally connect.

I know my 128 had one. It was a PITA to get that little roll pin back in and have everything line up.

Roland,
my TC 157 dated 11/75 shows both switches for the 86-169 Yours must be older. DX3 you need little hands like the lady on Sat Nite live.

My 149 #423412 has no PTO safety switch. My 149 #492143 has one. The higher numbered one also has the PTO with the brake. They both have a neutral safety switch.

Steve, Former multiple 149 owner. Left the tractors back east when we moved to Nevada. One went to South Jersey, the other to Long Island.

I checked the dash tower again, there is NO accommodation for a PTO safety interlock switch in my 149. I guess they started adding them in late 1972 or with the 1973 models.
