Default Hydro cooling fan

Got another couple of I hope quick questions

I noticed that hydro CC are supposed to have a shroud around the cooling fan, and yet mine does not have one.

-how important is this shroud? I can feel a breeze out of the back when it's running, and my fan is missing one blade.

-how difficult is it to install one if I do decide to put one on? Can it be slipped around the drive shaft without drive shaft removal?

-is it somewhat common that these are missing? My 147 doesn't have one and I don't remember my dad's 125 having one either.

I know the sponsors sell them if I do decide to get one.

(I did a search prior to my post and didn't find what I was looking for)

Thanks a lot!

I'm ordering parts for my 1250 so I have the parts look-up open. Looks like there is a shroud.

Not all Cub models have a Cooling Fan Shroud

On a hot summer's day, it helps a lot.

The drive shaft will have to be removed.

Not clear what you are referencing the whole fan or one of the blades. All hydro have a Cooling Fan. NO....it is not good to run one with a damaged blade. It will create an 'off balance" condition on the drive shaft.

D'Oh, should've been more clear. I meant how common is it for the shroud to be missing.

Sounds like a new fan is in order.

What is involved with drive shaft removal?

Thanks

If you go to the manuals section, download the service manual for your tractor (free by the way) then read the manual you will become one of Enlightened Masters of Cub Repair.

You will have to split the tractor to accomplish this.
It is in the manual how to accomplish this.
When you are done we need pictures of your accomplishment.
Don't forget to tie up the brake rod from the brake rockshaft or you will have to resplit the tractor when you find out later you did it wrong.

Could that error also be fixed by removing the brake pedal/rockshaft assembly via those 2 brackets?

You would think that would work but the hydro filter is in the way of removing it.The factory puts the pointy side of the brake rod away from the filter.BTDT....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
