To make a long story short.
A couple years ago I had a dead short in the SG. All fixed, and works great now. But, ever since the ammeter needle when everything off sits about half way to full charge position. As tho the short caused such a big draw the needle actually bent. I've had it out, and can see no way to disassemble the ammeter and bend back. At least no way that I would be able to get it back together. Is the only fix a new ammeter?? Any suggestions???

Yep, another meter is in order, these old ones aren't made to take apart.

If you're really careful you can pry around the back side of the outer chrome ring where it is crimped to the housing and remove the glass to get to the guts of the meter. I took apart the meter on my 149 and carefully recrimped the chrome ring. From the front of the meter you cannot tell it's been tampered with.

Be careful recrimping the rim.
After breaking a few glass lenses on assorted gauges, I now make up a receiver "cup" in the lathe, the appropiate size and use my drill press as a light duty "press" to recrimp it, using another cup/die to do that. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
