Default IH 982 Prices

So what are running but unrestored 982's going for these days, if you can even find one ?

Are these just a stretched 782 with a bigger motor ? From the dash console forward they look to be the same as a 782.

They have a different frame, engine and transaxle and options are better one them. Front tins are the same. Prices are based on location and condition.

I bought one for $450 a few years ago, got lucky. I also sold one for $1500 a few years ago. I see them anywhere from $1200 up depending on condition. I haven't seen any in a while though.

I've only seen a couple for sale and pricing was in the 2 - 3k range.

That's the norm that I've seen also. To get a deal, you normally have to find one where the owner doesn't really know what he has or doesn't have much invested. For example, I found my 982 on ebay. I then found that it was 3 miles from my house. I got in contact with the guy prior to the auction ending and went and looked at it and struck, what I felt, was a very good deal. He picked up 3 CC's from an estate sale and was very happy with getting cash instead of paypal and being able to sell it face to face. You have to be patient or have some extra money

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
