Default Cub Cadet 107 Hydro Problem

Hello All,

I am buying a 107 and picking it up Sunday. The guy I am buying from says the engine runs and the mower cuts just fine, just the hydro doesn't want to turn the wheels.

First: is there an unlock for the hydro so I can roll it into the truck to load?

Second: what should I look at first?
may there be a noticeable problem?

Third: is the hydro in the gt series anything like the larger IH tractors?

Hopefully I will be able to get some photos posted and some more information on Sunday when I pick up the machine, but any initial thoughts from the experts would be very helpful.

Nathan

Nathan congrats! You might get lucky and it may have a broken spirol pin in the drive shaft. There is a hydro release lever on the right side of the tunnel cover. Push it down and it will release the hydro.

In regards to the lever also, there are two hydro valves that the lever engages, that could have the button of each valve stuck downwards in the bypass position. This position allows the unit to be moved around by hand.

The link I am going to post below will have a lot of answers for your questions including trouble shooting the hydro unit and how to fix some common problems with it and your cub.

As an update, I picked this mower up today and the lever did nothing. The mower will roll freely without pushing the button. Its been raining cats and dogs here so I have not gotten to deep into it.

More updates tomorrow, and all the advice as to what to look for and such is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the relieve valves were depressed, and never came back up...Or, it has just sat so long, that the fluid has drained back into the reservoir.

If the fluid drained back into the reservoir, would there be any noises when pushing the drive rod up or back. The engine runs and the mower spins, but when the drive rod is pushed nothing happens, no noises, no jumps, nothing at all.

have you looked to see if there's any fluid in the tranny? if not, it would roll very easily by hand.

That will be the first thing I check today. If it was run without fluid could I suspect there is damage to the pump itself? Also if its empty must I assume there is a crack or a leak in the fittings?

Again thank you everyone for the help, I wish the rain would have settled this weekend so I could do some more work, but 40's with multiple inches of rain over three days is not a good combination, add the fact that I am just finishing a cold and don't want to miss work!

Thank you all for your suggestions and support. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the hydro fluid fill cap and fluid started coming out! I was also surprised to learn that when locking the foot pedal down, it locks the forward and reverse lever in the neutral position.

Anyways, I was able to find that the two buttons that unlock the hydro were stuck with some gunk. Well after cleaning the gunk one popped back up and the other stuck down and wont move. I tried cleaning it out further, but nothing would pop it up.

Any tips to try and get it unstuck without removing the whole rear end or hydro pump would be very helpful.

Thats the update for now, stay tuned!

Nathan

Nathen spray it down with PB blaster and leave it sit for a few days, sometimes it works, sometimes it won't, but it's the easiest try.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
