Cub Cadet Painting
Looking for some help here. I am new to restoration but I have been dealing with cubs for awhile now. I want to get into painting so I ca paint a 128 I may be purchasing. I am only 15 and know little about air painting so here are a few questions:
1. I have a 6 gal 150psi air comppressor, will this run a decent paint sprayer to paint a cub? 2. As for the paint sprayer, for me a beginner, not looking to spend a lot, but wanting to do a good job....what store and which sprayer/ which price area should I go with? 3. Do you guys buy cub cadet paint in a can and just pour it into sprayer? I see that a lot of yous ad things to it too? Where, from what store or maybe website do you get your paint from? And do you knowthe numbers for the yellow and white paint? 4. Other than a clean workplace, what else do i need to use a paint sprayer? Thanks, I am really looking forward to this learning experience!

Your compressor will probably work for short periods of time and then you'll have to let it catch up. But the parts are small so that really isn't a big deal.
Get a good water separator and an hvlp gun. I have a hvlp I bought from Harbor freight for $15 on sale and it works better than I expected. As far as paint goes. you can go to tractor supply and buy primer, paint, reducer and hardener and it'll get you real close in color for under $100 Or you can go anywhere they sell automotive paint and get some paint mixed up by color code and get an exact match by using the color codes on this chart. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19

And the water separator is what pulls the moisture out of the air so it does not get into the spray gun, correct?

If the air compressor is a 6 gallon tank expect terrible results from that gun.
Most 6 gallon tank compressors only produce about 2 cfm, which is way less than what that hvlp gun needs. Some hvlp guns need 13 cfm to paint good. So the next question is how many cfm is your compressor!!??

The air compressor says 3.5 SCFM! However the gun I was looking at needs 6 cfm, so thanks for bringing that to my attention.

If you have a portable air tank you can pipe it into your air compressor to give you more volume of air. Thats what I did when I painted my 1200. My compressor is a small one about 6 gal and my portable air tank is 10 gal . The compressor ran alot,but it worked for me,just an idea. Also get a good quality air mask,think I paid $30 for mine from menards,there are several different ones,you get what you pay for. Paint is not a good thing to inhale , can cause serious damage to you. i would also recommend getting some kind of paint suit or old coveralls or old cloths at least to cover your skin,long sleeves and painting gloves so you keep the paint and such off your hands and from getting into your body. The gloves are cheap so get several or a pack of them.
