Default wires.

Well guys I've decided in my little adventure of restoring my 1966 IH CC 102 I've decided I'm going to do all the work myself. So that means I'm going to make my own harness. Does anyone know of a place to get the factory style plugs for the brake switch as well as the ignition. Also a good place to find/buy the factory sizes and colors. Thanks in advance for any and all information. And how should the cigarette lighter be wired. To the hot side of the solenoid like the headlights? Or keyed. Thank you

(A) The size of the wire is 14GA

(B) The colors can be had at any Auto Parts Store.

(C) The Molex Plugs may be a tad difficult to find

(D) Typically, the Cigarette Lighter is wired directly to a battery source (ie: starter solenoid) but there is nothing to say if you want it keyed.

Lastly, there should be a 15A in line fuse for the Cigarette Lighter.

I was determined to go this route as well for my 147. One trip to ACE Hardware and I came up with a total of about $30 just in my wire measurements. Now, the connectors you will need are going to have to be sourced all over the map, and you'll have to be able to buy them in 1's, 2's and 3's. A few will really take some scouring. I estimated the price of the connectors & shipping and then finding the correct harness cover....it just wasn't worth it.

Wound up buying one of the harnesses on Ebay from Porch Electric and so glad I did. What they sent me worked perfectly, and was correctly color-coded down to the proper lilac for the headlights.

im not real worried about the time or effort in doing it. i want to do it just for the fact that i was the one that did all the work. the only thing im having done is the machine work on the engine (if it needs it) other then that 100% of the work is going to be done by me, i have the stock harness to go off of for lengths and if i have to i can reuse the ignition switch plug and brake switch plug i do believe these are the only two actual combined plugs on it. as far as the wire loom/cover im going to use some yellow stuff i already have. im not going for a 100% correct restoration, i want to make it my own in a way. and i have nothing but time so thats no big deal eather

I agree with Satern V I got a harness from the same guy and it worked great what I liked best was the use of the braided wire loom. But if you are determined to build it yourself you could go to an IH dealer and get the plugs and terminals. Although it would not be cheap. plugs are $5 to $20 and terminals are up to $3 each. Napa can get you all the stuff as well for a fraction of the cost. In both cases you have to be lucky enough to find a competent parts man.

I'm all for that.

The thing about rewiring your machine with whatever colors you have on hand, it can make future troubleshooting a nightmare and renders factory wiring schematics useless.

Good luck on your tractor, looking forward to some photos.

I'm definitely using factory colors, might not be a dead on match for color but will be close. Before I try and thing I'm going see about hunting down the connectors. I have two harnesses here but I'd rather have that shiny new look to them. Just because nobody will see them, I'll know they are there and it'll drive me nuts.
