Default My Cub Cadet 1200 Partial Restoration

Hi everyone,

Glad to be apart of the forums, this site has already helped me out a bunch! Anyways I thought I'd share some pictures of my 1200 and what I've done with it.

It all started when I found out about a 1200 about an hour south of me for $300. Came with a snow blow and 2 nice size cutting decks, so I decided to jump on it. Also had a very leaky carb, flat tire, and reverse and 1st gear not working, which the seller forgot to mention but I still took it home.

The front left tire was flat, and instead of getting a tube I got a new tread. Wrestled trying to get the seized wheel off the hub for a day, decided to change it while it was on the tractor which got the job done. From there I got a bottle of engine degreaser went to town with a wire brush. Continued on to sanding while I waiting for the carb kit to come in the mail. Hooked up the plow because it was easy and I wanted to check it out.

After more sanding, cleaning, taping, priming, painting, and waiting for the carb kit to come...

Continued on to the rims...

Carb kit came in after that, got it rebuilt and tuned up. Took it for a test drive and man was that third gear faster than I expected! Seeing as I want to use the snowplow this winter, it was time to fix the reverse and first gear problem. Currently located a new transxle and today I split the tractor. Going to re-paint all the yellow parts as well now that I can get into them.

Thanks for checking out my tractor everyone! Love my cub cadet already!

I actually am looking for a decal set! If he can beat $45, I think we can make a deal. I will try to find him and send him a message, thank you!

Tractor looks good.

If you need the tin work that covers the muffler I have a set off my 1210 that should fit. Can't use it on the 71 that the engine is going into. PM me if you want it. Pics are of the engine when it was sitting on my work bench.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
