This is getting bad with these cubs. I have been offered a 129 that had a freshly rebuilt engine when the hydro failed. It has been sitting outside for a few years.
Is there enough of a difference between the two to complicate the transplant, or is it a drop in? A 12 horse, gear shift first wide frame would be a 128. What is the difference between a 128 and an 86? Other than the engine? |

It'll work. Just will need to install a 3-pin driver on the flywheel side of the engine.

The 3 pin driver is the part that bolts to the rear facing side of the engine. The clutch actually slips into it. You should be able to take the 3 pin driver off the 86's motor and bolt it onto the 129's motor for the swap. Just remember not to get rid of that 86's engine. Hold onto it!

Thanks, guys.
If I buy the 129 and do the swap, I'll save the engine, either for spare parts for my Ford 80, or to sell. That is all a big if, since I have not even seen the 129, yet. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
