Default 1650 Oil Pan question

Hey guys,
Kinda at a crossroads here. Trying to get my dual hydro 1650 back together. Replacing two isomounts cause the other two were brand new when I bought it. The right engine rail is worn pretty bad. The oil pan on the same side is pretty bad as well. The rail actually was so loose, it wore into the cross member by the front axle. When the engine was bolted in, it had a noticeable lean to the worn side not caused by the mounts.

Now I've been looking in the archives and am having a hard time finding any info. I do remember reading somewhere that the oil pain can be replaced with a cast iron one. It that true? Now the 12, 14, or 16 horse ones would work with the deep sump, correct? Thanks in advance for any help.

Need to replace it with a cast iron one or good aluminum one since I've got it this far apart.

Hey red56turbo
Yes,i believe you have all the right information. I replaced both of mine with the cast iron ones.
I believe they were both from 12 h.p engines.
1 Went on the 14 h.p. in the 149 and the other went on the 16 h.p. in the 169.

Diz Jr,
Thanks for the reply. I could've swore I had read that somewhere. Thanks for confirming my thoughts! The aluminum pan is eaten into pretty bad. The threads are all good still and it wasn't leaking as far as I can tell. Looks like I'm on the hunt for some parts again.

Hope you can find a new pan quick.
Call or e-mail Chris at Cub Classics he usually has aluminum pans, and sometimes he will have a cast iron one.

Got my cast iron pan for my 1650 off ebay. When you compare the price/per weight of 5/16 zinc-coated flat washers washers at Home Depot, it's a steal! I'm pretty sure Kohler used the aluminum pan because it transfers heat from the oil to the outside air faster than a cast iron one. Something to think about. Probably not a problem if you change oil regularly.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
