Default Cub 1450 - Hydro pulsing.
Hello,
Another question....I took out the fill plug on the back of the rear, and clear hydro fluid came rushing out. I put the plug back in a fast as I could.

When I started it up after that to move it, it was 'pulsing' a little while going very slow.

Did I cause this by letting some fluid out?

Should I jack the back end up and add more?

The fluid seemed nice and clear, and didn't smell bad. PO said it was changed about 75 hours ago.

Should I still replace it and the filter?

Will replacing the fluid make the trans better at climbing hills at slow speeds?
It seems like I always have to open the valve more to climb a hill at slow speeds. Not sure if this is normal. And it doesn't hold a very constant speed while going down hill.

You shouldn't have to add or change the fluid, if it was running out and clear. How long have you ran it since the pulsing started? I would try to run it out of the system, and if it doesn't stop..Replace the filter.

Clear? Makes me think that there is water in there. I would do a complete cleaning and filter change. Hy-Tran smells likes meds and is red.

They could have used regular hydraulic oil, or Hy-Guard..Which is a light brown.

It was completely clear. Smelled clean, not burned. Has an odor, like a oily odor, but not bad.

If I change just the filter, wont a lot of the fluid spill out?

Is there a chance I will get better operation with Hytran fluid?

Jack up the front of the tractor, and most of the fluid will run to the back of the trans axle.


I would recommend using Hy-Tran, or John Deere's Hy-Guard. They are basically the same thing.

If I change it to Hytran, is it OK to mix the 2 oils? The cleasr stuff that is in there now with the new stuff? Jack up teh front to get it all to run out the back? Do I need to worry about air pockets or anything once it is finished?

Should I just fill it to the top of the plug?

I would remove the rear cover and axle tubes to get out the clear fluid. Depending on what you find you may need to wipe the casting clean. I buy my hy-tran in 5 gallon pails as I don't have any Case IH dealers near me. I can get them for $70 after tax but I've heard of people spending $85+ for the same 5 gallon pail. Location and dealer support determine prices.

If your going to change it to Hytran, don't mix it. Since your changing the fluid, go ahead and drain the oil, change the filter, and refill with Hytran. Yes, you will want it almost running out of the hole.
