Gas shut-off extension....don't shoot me!
I drilled a small hole in the push-pull knob of the shut-off valve to except the small wire of an old choke cable. Now I can pull the knob to open the valve. I still open the hood and make sure it is shut off by reaching in with my finger and pushing it closed. Please don't shoot me!

that is a good idea. its such a pain to take the pannels off and on for turning the gas off

Yeah prettycool idea the panels made me make double sure the float was set right on the 1200 I dont even worry about shutting it off now!

I used to never shut mine off,until the bowl overflowed and left a puddle of gas all over the floor! Thats a good idea there! I found I can shut mine off by using my middle finger and flipping the shut off up or down,its a hard reach but can be done with the side panels on. IH didn't think that one through when they built it!

Young enthusiast, not sure what yours is like, but mine is the push pull button, not the lever. I drilled a small hole in the button and put the wire through the hole and bent it so it would allow me to pull on the button with the choke cable to open the valve.
 It worked!
