Default New to me 1650

Hello,

First time cub owner, and I just purchased a 1650. Future plans call for a front end loader (Whenever I can find one) But until then I want to address a few issues, and get this thing in good running shape for mowing the yard, and plowing snow next winter.

The tractor came with Dual Hydraulics, 44 inch dek, rear lift, a plow (Also need hydro tilt for plow), and a 1a tiller.

My current plans are to pull the engine, do the cradle mod, and put in new motor mount bushing. I am also going to adjust the electric PTO clutch, and put in new points/ condenser while it's apart.

Is there anything else that I should do while the motor is out to replace the mounts?

The motor also starts hard, sometimes If I keep holding the key the starter will turn over the motor slowly, then it will eventually start. I haven't had a chance to dig into it much. Timing issue? low battery? anything else to look out for?

There is a good bit of play in the steering. Tie rods look fine, and it appears to be in the column. Is there a thread somewhere about what to look for/ how to tighten the steering?

Some parts I need are:
-Both upper and lower grill - mine are pretty mangled
-Hydro kit for plow
-New seat
-New wheels for the 44a deck.
-Hydro fan
-Ag tires

Welcome to OCC.

Whatever you do work on, do not rush to get it finished or you will be doing it again.

While the engine is out, high pressure wash the transaxle, see if the trunion needs repair, change the hydro fluid.

Also check your drive line bushing balls, rag joints and drive shaft. Thanks for the pics!

I spent a few hours last weekend washing off 30 years of dirt and grime, it looks much better now.

The trunion was also on my list to look at. I saw how to inspect/ disassemble it. If the trunion is bad what are the indications, or what does it affect?

will also need to look at the hydro fluid.

Rag joints have been replaced, I assumed b/c the mounts are toast.

What to inspect on the driveshaft?

What are the driveline bushing balls?

Look for wear on the drive shaft (rounding over or more wear on one side then the other).

Parts 12 and 13

The same bushing ball goes into part #2

A worn out trunion will cause issues with speed control, and will make it hard to keep the tractor in neutral.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
