Default I saved a 4-digit Original...

Well, I never thought I would be one of the individuals to save a Cub Cadet, but I did. I knew it was an early Original with everyones help since I didn't know the serial number. The serial number ended up being #1203.

GOOD It has collard spindles, thin front axle, old style S/G bracket, S/G with oil cups, early rims, and basically complete.

BAD It needs a "frame off" restoration, the seat is shot, the engine needs to be rebuilt and the steering shaft is shot.

UGLY See picture!

With all of this, I am happy and even though my wife was shaking her head before I got the truck stopped in the yard, no divorse papers!

If it were up to me, I'd restore this Original because it's a early production model. Besides missing a few things like the oil bath air cleaner, I'd say the Original is in nice condition. I wonder why we stopped using the oil fill caps on the starter generators.

Great score!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
