Default 982 versus 2072

I am looking at both tractors for sale at about the same price and condition. What's the preferred model? Thanks!

I would say get both! Both are great machines but I think the 982 is more sought after due to lower production numbers.

I believe some of the 982s did not have power steering? And the 2072s did?

If that is the case you may want to look at the 2072.

I just had a guy answer one of my CL ads, he has a 982 and was looking for the parts from a 2072 to ad power steering to it.

The 982 is farther away and it does not have cylinder on the left side. The guy says it steers real easy. He believed it had internal power steering. The 2072 I am looking at doesn't have the 3 point hitch and dual hydro levers (I don't think) that I want. Maybe I'll just keep looking...

Where about in Michigan are you? There is a 2072 with a 60 in Haban. No 3 point but real nice. It's in Minden City for sale.

The 982 had a cast iron rear end if the Chassis Serial Number was 719,999 & below. If the serial number was 720,000 and above, it had a aluminum rear end.

So the 2072 has an aluminum rear end? How expensive & hard to acquire a complete power steering setup is it?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
