Spent over 14 hours on the road so far but have had a successful Cub cadet adventure. My mother has a farm in Kentucky that always needs mowing. Her cheap riding mower died so I told her I would buy her a quality mower this time around. Gary (from this forum) was selling his very nice 149 so I decided this would be a great time to put a Cub to work.
![]() I live on the coast of SC so I headed out Thursday afternoon to drive to Indiana to pick up the 149. On the way, I decided to stop as I passed through Kentucky to pick up a non-running 102 with a snow blower, blade, and a nice deck. I picked it up at 10:00 pm and rove on to Cincinatti to spend the night. ![]() 9:30 Friday morning I met Gary to pick up the 149. he showed me around his beautiful property and showed me the 149 he is keeping, his 782, etc. He is a great guy and I appreciate him selling me the tractor that had belonged to his grandfather! ![]() Finally got to my mom's farm at 2:30. I walked the property and decided that the field where she had planted her fruit trees needed to be mowed. I didn't mow the whole field, but I mowed a pretty good amount! The 149 was awesome and cut through this high (and wet) grass like a champ. I then mowed the rest of the yard. I am very pleased with the 149!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
