cast iron transaxle
I've got the transaxle out of my 104 and apart for new seals, brakes and o-ring and cleanup. After a thorough cleaning of case and axle carriers I noticed what looks like casting flash and/or sand covered by the reddish paint on the insides. In the wide axle carrier I knocked a llitle loose,( very easily ). It is magnetic, so I know it is iron. My question is should I continue or leave it alone. At some point over the years something metal ( I think) got mashed between the teeth of the sliding 2nd gear. The bottom 2nd gear looks like it was barely affected. I was able to clean up the teeth on the sliding gear with a stone. Sorry I don't have pictures though. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks

Glyptal
Thanks for the response fellas. I knew about the glyptal to seal the cast iron.I had forgotten the brand name. What I meant was it looks like the factory sealed it before a thorough cleaning .But only in a few spots. I can understand it being overlooked. Also in a few spots there is no coverage of the glyptal. Is this common? Overall I'm amazed at the quality manufacturing. Thanks again.
