Default synthetic 10w-30/ SAE 30 year round ?

OK; I'm not trying to re-open the synthetic vs petroleum debate. We "inherited" our 105 ,and it came with 10w30 mobile 1.
I am going to switch to [ Amsoil 10w-30/SAE30 commercial grade Small Engine Oil] because :
1) It's cold here in the winter,
2) I only want 1 year round oil for the generator tractor,& lawn mower.
3) It seems to meet/exceed all CC and kohler requirements, gas or diesel. & 4) I just like synthetics.
I'll keep you posted.
Good luck to all of us.

Steve

Well, you wouldn't want to run 30 weight in the winter because it's too thick. I have a 680 with a K301 and I run Pennzoil 10w40 in it year round.

You will probably have to deal with increased oil consumption during the warmer months if you do that.

Me and my Dad run Amsoil in everything because he is a dealer. It is amazing oil and we swear by it... except in Cubs. I ran Amsoil in a couple of them and they started to use a little oil and one started knocking. I think the oil is just so clean and slippery that its almost too perfect for those old engines. I kinda don't make sense I just realized. haha

I work for a Cub dealer, and we use SAE 30 in the K-series Kohlers, year-round, as it is what Kohler recommends.

They do NOT recommend running 30W when the temperature is below 30F; 10W-30 is supposed to be used below 30F. Check any Kohler service or owner's manual...

Cold starts with thick oil are extremely hard on an engine.

You better double check the Kohler service manual.......Page 1.4 of a Kohler Service manual wants the owner to use 30 weight oil above 32 degrees, between 0 to 30 degrees use 10W-30 and if you see temps below 0 degrees use 5W-20 or 5W-30.

I've tried synthetic oil in the past. Every engine I tried it in leak oil. I didn't see enough improvement to justify the added cost.

Last summer I replaced the rear differental in my Suburban with an Eaton diff.......Eaton instructions said not to use synthetic oil with their diff.

Some think synthetic is the best thing since slice cheese.....In my book it's garbage.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
