Engine painting

i have a question for someone who has done a restore on an engine...do you paint the flywheel on your engine? the one i have has a magneto that runs off the flywheel so im sure i don't wanna paint the outside of the flywheel. how do you clean the fins out of the engine as well? any help or pictures would be appreciated.

If it were me I would not paint the flywheel,just clean it up good it will be covered by a shroud as for the fins a good soaking with simple green and power washing will do or use a wire brush on the fins. I would not paint the fins or the head either,paint makes it harder for the engine to dissipate heat .

If you don't paint the flywheel, it's going to rust. I wouldn't paint the magnet, though.

I can't stand a rusty flywheel. I painted the one on my 128, but those don't have the magneto setup. But you can tape over the magnets on the flywheel and paint it and be fine. This will also give you a good opportunity to clean and contrast paint your timing mark on the flywheel. Will make for setting the timing so much easier. Just my 2 cents worth.

I to can't stand rust. Painted the one on my 100, much better than the rust color. I sand blasted mine to get it clean.
