I have a model 1872 with the junk non-adjustable carb, from searching the forums, I believe I can get a carb off a KT17 series 1 (but not series2) and it should be the ticket. Correct? I want to make sure to get the right carb the first time. I want to be able to adjust it as needed (in case there was any confusion) Any more info would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Also.....does the carb have to come off another Cub or can it come off anything with a KT17? (John Deere, wheelhorse, etc) Thanks

Before you give up on the Walbro just make sure it is really not adjustable. My Super has an adjustable Walbro idle and high speed jet. It runs that Magnum 20 just fine. I have a #26 Carter off an old K301 single but the cable linkage on the throttle shaft would need to be re-worked. It's hard to believe but the throat on the Walbro is much smaller than the throat on the Carter so I am not sure how it could be fitted to the Magnum. I was once told that the #26 Carter (Kohler) carb was too big for the Magnum twin. It would deliver too much fuel to each of the smaller cylinders on the twin on the intake stroke.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
