I am getting a 129 that has set for a couple years but the owner said it all worked good before he parked it, my question is when I get it what should I do before starting and driving it? I know gas, check oil, check for spark and generally look it over to make sure it all looks good, maybe check for mouse nest since it has been in a barn but is there anything else I am over looking. this is not my first 129 or cub but it will be my 3rd cub, I had a 129 awhile ago so its not a stranger. it dose have headlights and I know they are hard to find with actually headlights but how rare is that? I will post pictures of it when I get it home

Sounds like you're up to speed. I would go ahead and change the oil before trying to run it. It will likely need a carb kit, so you may want to pick one up.

You might check the points and condenser. Once you do get it going, plan on changing the rear Hytran fluid and filter.

i planed on changing the fluid and filter in the tranny anyway I will check the fluid level before hand. the last 129 I had I didnt and I was using it one day and it wouldnt hardly move its self around so I drained the fluid out but I only got 2 quarts of hy-tran out of it yes 2 quarts and no spilling when I drained it cold......put new fluid and filter in it and it was good to go I didnt have a single problem out of it after that

You may want to put some wd 39 down the spark plug hole and let it set awhile while you work on the other stuff the others mentioned.

darkminion_17 didnt think of that, the only thing I hope is that he had sense enough to drain the gas out of the carb and gas tank before he left it there that long

The first time that I get a running cub, I put some Marvel Mystery Oil in my fuel mix along with some HEET (just a little HEET.....maybe 1 oz. per gallon of fuel) and add that to the tank. Then work on firing it up. I have found that this cleans the gum left over from old fuel out of the lines and carb. The Marvel Mystery Oil will also clean a little and help lubricate the upper engine. This probably isn't as effective as Merkle fuel, but it has always worked well for me and given great results. Besides, the Merkle fuel formula is a well guarded secret!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
