It was a nice August summer day, cruising my 102 turning grass into mulch...suddenly, SMOKE, sputter, cough...silence...

This being my first unofficial "refurb, restore, whatever you want to call it", I didn't really know how far I was going to take it... The PO had painted it at some point with a very bright sunshiney color, albeit incorrect, it really made my repaint simple enough, as I just had to cleanup, sand a bit and shoot away... Although I have a spray gun, I didn't really intend on turning my working girl into a show girl... so I ended up using Valspar rattle can - at any rate, before I was done reassembling, I fixed some other things that needed maintenance - carb rebuild, resurface head, new heim joints, readjust steering (probably should have removed and done complete rebuild), lights where there were issues, that's about all i can think of... it was getting cold here in Chicago land, but not too cold to shoot cheap paint (heck we still haven't gotten our snow yet...), it did get too cold to paint befre i finished, so I didn't get a chance to repaint the hood... I may get decals and repaint hood in the spring, but not sure yet, since this is a worker - a clean one, however... Here's some more pics...

The black gives your engine a racy contrast that I like.
And Yes... I have taken simple repairs to the extreme. Guido |

Here's some more pics, I know I really enjoy pics, as do you all, I'm sure... Although I'm generally a purist, I took the liberty of having some fun with the black, yellow and white paint scheme to accentuate some items on the engine, I like how it looks... I left the air filter off for pics... I painted the grill a gold'ish color, just because I had the paint handy - I kinda like it...?
10.jpg 11.jpg 12.jpg 13.jpg This item was an upgrade that the PO had installed. Out of respect for the PO, and his respect for this cub, I decided to reinstall his upgrade - priceless... 14.jpg I really enjoyed working on my 102, and it will likely inspire me to put one of my 147 into this condition - it's just fun bringing a 45 YO machine up to date for many more years of work... I hope you enjoyed my pics, Peace!

I also like that you still sport the original Firestones on the rear. I like that tread pattern.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
