Default Correct muffler for "O"

I did a search but came up with nothing. What is the correct muffler for an Original and where can I find one? Thanks in advance!

Default Well

....I was able to find the duplicate for the one that was on my "O" at Tractor Supply. I think it cost $7.95 last weekend. It seems to be the same, except like all replacements, it's probably made in China somewhere and will last 6 months rather than 35 years.

I'm sure the sponsors have them too, if you don't have a local source.

You get what you pay for with mufflers. I have used a few of those $7 ones in the past...they discolor after about 30 minutes run time, and will be all rusty in a few months. I did use a Kohler muffler on the 100 I restored a couple years ago, and it still looked new after a couple hours of run time, after which point I sold the tractor, but based on what happened over the same amount of time with both mufflers, I'd say OEM is a better choice if you want it to last.

Those mufflers from Tractor supply will work but is not correct for an O. As Matt has stated they will work but wont last. The correct muffler has holes all around the front of the muffler and the ones from TS has a diamond shape. I do have pictures of the correct muffler somewhere. But if it's just a worker there's nothing wrong with them.

The correct muffler is available through a cub cadet dealer for about $25 for a new one. I have one that is very close to the original one, that is brand new and sitting somewhere in the backseat of my truck, but it has 3/4" threads instead of the 1". It retails for $8, but I've never used it so I do not know about the quality. As Matt said, you get what you pay for (most of the time........because mine was free!) Still, I don't expect it to last as long as the original ones.

I beat one off of an old Kohler 7hp, shook all the rust out of it, repainted it with muffler paint, and its still going strong 1 year later.....It only has 1 little dent in it, but the little cheap ones have folded up like tin foil when I put them through just a little stress to get them off.

I didn't realize I could still get one at the dealer. I'll check that out. Thanks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
