Default 682 hydro pump interchangeable with ?

I just bought a IH built 682 for use as a mower, but thought that eventually I might convert it to hydraulic lift and add a 3-point lift, front ports, rear ports, etc. What hydro pumps are compatible with the rear? Can I go with any pumps for a CCC or MTD tractor, or just the CC ones? I know they have to have the same bolt patterns, etc, but I don't know about shaft size, splines, etc.

Since I also have a 1650 I'm rebuilding, I may just keep the 682 as-is and put the add-ons on the 1650, but I'm not sure I can help myself. One of the two is going to end up as a bucket/backhoe tractor. Not sure which yet.

Why don't you just add the "ports" to your pump ?

Any pre-cyclops (pre-1990), non-super ported pump will work.

jbollis-

That would require changing the front half of the pump, which requires a donor ported pump. Might as well just stick the ported pump on there and be done with it.

Curious as to why ? Parts tree calls the same part number for both the 682 and the 782, Cub Cadet SU-9510643 Housing, Center Section.

Looks like yet another partstree error (which interestingly enough, the CC parts lookup also has). The front is not the same...the unported pumps do not have any of the machining for the ports. I have a 682, and used to have another, and neither has a ported pump. Later on, the 1810 came with a ported pump from the factory, but with capped ports. If there are no capped ports, it is not a ported hydro, and you cannot convert it to one without either changing the front half, at which point is is easier to simply use an existing ported hydro.

Thanks, guys. That's what I needed to know. Not sure I'll convert it yet.

For now, it's going to be the lawn mower, which is my daughter's job. I have an old Lowe's garden tractor that was doing the work until I get my 1650 finished, but the Lowe's is just flat wearing out. I spend more time getting drive belts back on pulleys and adjusting the lift, and fiddling with it, that it's wasting my time. The 46" deck doesn't cut all that well. Not only that, but the brakes don't hold and I can't seem to get them to adjust properly. Unsafe on our hilly lawn. Makes Mom nervous. So, when I came across the 682, I asked the boss (mother dear) whether I should buy it to replace the Lowe's. Her response was, "Does it stop?" "Yes, m'am it does!"

So, I have a 682 now. I figure the Carlysles on the back and the 44C in good shape were worth most of the $500 I paid. I have been watching for a good 782D, but you just don't see too many Cubs in this area.

Matt,
I wasn't trying to make an argument. I Don't deal with the IH "red" 82's. I only play with the CCC"s. I assumed they were all the same. I am not saying all the CCC pumps are machined for the ports, but I haven't seen one that wasn't yet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
