I have heard that a frame can crack when high hp motors are used for pulling. Has anyone run into this before? My 1250 frame is now down to bare metal and I want to do any welding or reinforcing that needs to be done. I plan to get about 50-60 hp out my motor and was wondering if reinforcment is needed at that hp level. Thanks, John Schutte.

John, I know the CCO's crack where the frame mounts to the tranny reduction housing. I would guess the WF's (as well as the NF's) would crack around the tranny mounting areas. The would be the area I would think would not be allowed to flex.

Every cracked NF or WF frame I have seen has been around the axle C-channel.

I've heard of them crack right before where the steering column bolts to the frame too.

I don't think the intention is to use a hydro? Am i correct. We had reinforced reartrans mounts on account of the fact our transmisions were pitched down about 2 or 2.5" in the back bolt hole. (the front mount bolt in recuction housing stayed the same.) I think the prostock had a custom crossmember in the front for the motor to bolt to. Dad built a square tube axle that was welded to a pair of frame extensions.

Yes, I plan to use a manual transmission. Not to change the subject, but will a NF transmission bolt up to a wide frame?

Yes, it should. All the gear drive cubs used the same transmission.

Yes, the only difference (that I can think of right now) will be that you will need the brake linkage/s depending on external disks or internal brakes.

John, I am running a narrow frame internal brake rear end in my 1000 puller. The tractor originally had external brakes. You won't have any trouble installing the rearend. I also haven't noticed any cracking of my frame, but we had to make an engine cradle to install our twin cylinder Kohler. We usually do an annual inspection after pulling season to check everything over. Good luck to you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
