I got a chance to buy a 1200, it's been sitting outside a few years, looks in decent shape, the guy said it ran really good and tranny was fine when he parked it, it has no deck. Everything else seems to be there, i assume the battery is junk. Side panels are missing, but he may have them.
He want's $300, do you think that is a decent price? I am thinking of offering him $250 or tell him $200 now and the other $100 when i get it running. Thanks |

I paid $550 for my 1200 with a 44A deck, fresh paint, and some minor other reconditioning done by the seller.. and there were several folks waiting to make offers on it while I was writing out the check at the tractor show. Since then I have had to replace the deck idler pulley and two belts.
So if you can confirm the motor is good, you are not to far off in my book. Of course there are those who got their quietlines for FREE but we ain't goin there.. I would be happier with 200 tho, as there is no deck..

About 3yrs ago I was looking for a good used 12hp for my 1250. A guy I used to work with had one for $200 but he said I had to take the whole tractor. His dad just passed and it was his but he needed $. I wasn't expecting much but he said engine ran great. When I picked it up to my suprise it was garage kept and in great condition, it had bar tires on rear and a newer battery. It was missing deck, mule drive, and pto. It started right up and ran great. I actually decided it was too nice to use for parts so found parts to make it complete. My 1250 still sits but, I tore apart engine and I am going to rebuild it.
Kieth Bliss $250 or so isn't too far out of line if it runs. I'd try to talk him down to $250 and withold $100 to see if it runs first! |

Jus make sure the only thing it's missing is the side panels. You can get into a lot of money try to piece one of these together. I think I also remember something about the clutches in the 1200's being quite picky about the setup. if you set one up wrong, you'll fry it quickly. I've never owned one, so I could very well be mistaken.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
