Default Will a K321s(electric start) work with a 149 key switch?

I picked up a 149 w/blown engine in May and finally found a replacement. It has the small electric starter. It seems like this would be an upgrade from the S/G set-up but I wonder about the electrical differences. I'm fine with the schematic up to the swich part. Any opinions about S/G vs S would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Default 321s for 149

This came out of an Ariens and has a totally different base. I'll swap the oil pan from the 321a. I'll go take a pic in a bit.

I think you'll have to make a new wiring harness for it.

You would need a wiring diagram from both machines and adapt your harness. Cranking should be straught foward, but the charging circuit could get complicated.

What kind of oil pan does the Ariens engine have?
If the oil pan is wider than the engine base (where the oil pan bolts to) you will have problems....not worth the aggervation.

It sounds like the Ariens engine has a small starter that runs off the flywheel. The charging system is under the flywheel. You may be able to use a electrical system from a Quiet Line Cub Cadet to make it work if the oil pan is ok.

I have an 86 that is using the electrical system from a Quiet Line Cub Cadet. This 86 is using the same starting-charging system as a Quiiet Line.

Need to see pictures of the Ariens engine.

Default pictures of k321s

I'm not worried about the oil pan. This is a k321 so the oil pans should swap no problem. Here are the pics

The oil pan is a problem. The area below the starter and air filter that is sticking out beyond the side of the block is wider than a engine-oil pan for a Cub Cadet. The oil dipper/slinger may not be long enough to oil the engine. You will have to replace the connecting rod if the oil slinger isn't long enough. There are some who have modified the frame.....you lost any value that the 149 had. There are K321 blocks out there for a Cub Cadet.....I have 3 extras (none for sale before anyone ask).

What is wrong with the block that was in the 149? The black can be reused if there isn't a hole in it.

Default k321s

I had put an edit withe pics but don't know what happened to it. I measured, and the oil pan will not work on the new one. I'm gonna just sell this and look for a 321a. I have a great working 149, so it's not like i'm in a hurry.

One more thing learned the hard way. lol

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
