Question New Member with Questions

Hi Guys,

This is my 1st post and I'm excited to finally be a Cub Cadet owner. I recently bought a 1250 with a 44" mower deck and a plow for $200. It seemed like a fair price considering what others were buying them for. As you might imagine, it needs some work, but on the bright side, it actually runs

Anyway, after spending a few hours searching online for an answer and checking the owners and service manual and finding nothing, I figured I would ask here.

Concerning belts, if I temporarily wanted to use the tractor with no implements at all, what size belt would I need?
Would the belt only connect to the front 3 pulleys?

All information appreciated.

Sweet price for your setup! You don't need any belts to use the 1250. It's driveshaft driven and no belts are needed. To use the deck you'll need a belt. Are you needing to know which belt you need for your 44 deck?

BBQ_Guru! Congrats on your new 1250!

To answer your question, I would assume you intend to leave the mule drive attached to the front of the tractor, but remove the mower deck? If this is the case, or if you remove the mule drive -either way- you don't need any belt at all. The 2 pulleys attached to the mule drive only help direct the belt towards the center spindle of the mower deck from the front PTO of the tractor. If your not intending to use any powered implements, then no belt is needed.

Good luck with your new cub, and you know we love pics...post some up when you can

This is a great site and I hope you enjoy your new cub.

When you talk about the three front pulleys I think you mean the pto and two idlers and the answer is you just need to take the belt off.If their isn`t any implement being used it doesn`t have to be on their.

The front belt is for the mower deck (or other uses could be for a tiller, snow thrower, etc...) this belt is for running the PTO (power take off) equipment. So if you are just wanting to drive the tractor, then the answer is no, no belt is needed, the hydrostat is run off a driveshaft that attaches to the flywheel end of the engine (on cubs the motor sets backward, flywheel to the rear, PTO to the front)....the answer would be yes if you intended to mow the grass, you will definitely need a belt for that and it goes around the PTO pulley and makes a 90* bend at the two lower pulley (called the mule drive) and finally goes around the upper center pulley of the deck.

Oh, congrats on your new tractor and welcome to the site!

Darn you guys are quick,
I think I'm going like this place,

It did come with a belt but I took off the mower deck because I wanted to inspect it. .
Thats good news that you don't need a belt when having no implements attached. I'm feeling like a newbie but we all started there at some point.

I'll post some pics soon.

I have a feeling that I'm going to have some more questions for you guys real soon.

Thanks a ton

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
